Commissioning an original painting is a personal journey. Below you'll find answers to the questions I'm most often asked. If you need any additional information, I'd be delighted to hear from you.

How long does a commission take?

Every commission is unique. Completion time depends on the size, complexity and my current commission schedule. Most paintings are completed within four to six weeks, excluding drying time for oil paintings.

Can you work from photographs?

Yes. I work from high-quality reference photographs supplied by you. If needed, I'll advise you on the best photographs to achieve the finest result.

What sizes are available?

Every commission is created to your requirements. Together we'll decide on the size and orientation that best suits your subject and the space where the artwork will be displayed.

Is a deposit required?

Yes.
A 50% deposit is required to secure your place in my commission schedule and to cover materials and the initial stages of your painting.

The remaining balance is payable before your artwork is shipped or collected.

Can I choose the colours or medium?

Absolutely.
Your painting is created in consultation with you.
You may choose: Oil Acrylic Mixed Media
We'll also discuss colours, mood and composition before work begins.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes.
Original paintings are professionally packaged and shipped worldwide.
Oil paintings require adequate drying time before they can be safely packed. Even when using professional drying mediums, paintings generally require a minimum of three weeks drying time before shipment.

How do I send my reference photographs?

Reference photographs can be emailed once we've discussed your commission.
I'll let you know which photographs will produce the best possible painting.

Can I see the painting while it's being created?

Yes.
Once your painting has reached an appropriate stage, I may share a progress photograph so you can enjoy seeing it come to life.
Progress photographs are shared at my discretion and are provided for interest only. They are not intended as review or approval stages, as every painting passes through several developmental phases before it is complete.

What makes a good reference photograph?

Not every photograph is suitable for creating a painting.
The best results come from clear, high-resolution images with good lighting and natural colours. The angle, composition and facial expression also play an important role.
If your photographs aren't ideal, don't worry. I'll review them first and advise whether they are suitable or suggest alternatives before your commission begins.

Do you use AI when creating a commission?

Every commissioned artwork is 100% hand painted.
In some cases, I may use AI as a creative planning tool to explore ideas, refine composition or help visualise concepts before painting begins. AI is never used to create the finished artwork—it simply assists in developing the design where appropriate.
Every brushstroke on the final painting is applied by hand using professional artist materials.
